Medical and nutritional disclaimer

Not medical advice

Content on GutPlate is provided for general educational and informational purposes. It is not intended to be, and should not be interpreted as, medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional โ€” a physician, registered dietitian, or gastroenterologist โ€” before making significant changes to your diet, especially if you have a chronic condition, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or take medications that interact with food.

Individual results vary

Gut health is highly individual. What works for one person may not work for another. Microbiome composition, pre-existing conditions, medications, and lifestyle all shape how your body responds to food. Recipes and tips are starting points, not prescriptions.

Nutrition estimates

When we include nutrition information, it is an estimate based on standard ingredient databases. Actual values vary with brand, ripeness, cooking method, and exact measurements. For medically supervised diets, always rely on labels and your clinician's calculations rather than our estimates.

Allergies and dietary restrictions

We make reasonable efforts to label recipes for common allergens and dietary patterns (dairy-free, gluten-free, low-FODMAP, etc.). However, you are responsible for verifying ingredients against your own restrictions, including cross-contamination for severe allergies.

Food safety

Follow standard food safety practices: keep raw meats separate, cook to safe internal temperatures, refrigerate perishables within two hours, and do not ferment in unclean containers. Home fermentation, while generally safe when done correctly, carries a small risk of spoilage or harmful bacterial growth if guidelines are not followed.

Age

Our recipes are written for adult home cooks. Children, older adults, and immunocompromised individuals may have different tolerances for certain ingredients (e.g. raw fermented foods, honey for infants). Use judgment and consult a pediatrician where relevant.

Third-party products

Product recommendations reflect our editorial opinion. We do not accept payment to recommend specific products, and our affiliate relationships (disclosed in full on our affiliate disclosure page) do not change which products we recommend.
